Drying takes forever, or clothes come out only half-dry

Symptoms

the cycle takes twice its usual time, or finishes on schedule and the clothes still feel damp.

Causes

nine times out of ten it's the door lint filter clogged shut, plus the base or condenser filter with its own layer of built-up lint choking the airflow further.

Try safely

clean the door filter after every single load rather than waiting for it to fill up, and wash the condenser filter under running water, drying it fully before you refit it. Still slow after a proper clean? The condenser itself likely needs a deep clean with our equipment, or the heating system has weakened.

The 'empty the water tank' light stays on with an empty tank

Symptoms

the tank-empty warning keeps showing on the display even though you're sure it's completely empty.

Causes

condensate gets pumped up to the tank by a small internal pump, and if that pump tires out or its tube clogs with lint, the system senses no flow and halts the whole cycle as a precaution.

Try safely

empty the tank fully and refit it firmly until you hear it click into place, cleaning the base filter while you're at it. Warning still showing? That points to the condensate pump and its sensor needing a check.

It runs, but the drum just won't turn

Symptoms

you can hear the motor running normally while the drum stays still, or it turns with obvious resistance and a grinding sound.

Causes

a snapped or slipped belt is by far the most common, followed by a worn tension pulley or failing drum bearings.

Try safely

unplug it completely and turn the drum by hand. If it spins too freely, that's usually a broken belt; if it feels heavy and squeals, suspect the bearings. Both typically get replaced in the same visit.

Stops mid-cycle, or doesn't respond at all

Symptoms

a sudden stop partway through a program, or the unit simply doesn't respond to anything.

Causes

the door not latching firmly, dirty humidity sensors giving a false dry reading, overheat protection tripping from clogged filters, or an electronics fault.

Try safely

shut the door firmly until you hear it click, clean every filter you can reach, wipe the humidity sensor strips inside the drum with a cloth dampened in diluted white vinegar, then unplug for 10 minutes before restarting.

Running hot, or a faint burning smell

Symptoms

the cabinet feels noticeably hotter than usual, or there's a smell close to a hot iron while it runs.

Causes

heat that isn't finding a way out, usually from lint-clogged filters and condenser, or a room with poor ventilation.

Try safely

clean every filter, leave clearance around the unit, and air out the room. If the smell is a genuine, strong burning odor, unplug it immediately and call us. Lint built up near the heating element is a real fire risk and not something to leave for later.

A clicking or rattling noise while it tumbles

Symptoms

a rhythmic clicking that tracks the drum's rotation.

Causes

a coin or button loose inside the drum or caught in its seams, a worn belt, a humming tension pulley, or bearings starting to fail.

Try safely

empty the drum completely and inspect it closely. Regular metallic sounds are usually minor on their own, but if they persist, get the belt and pulley checked before the fault has a chance to grow.

5 Technician Tips That Extend Your Dryer's Life

  1. 1Clean the lint filter after every load, not once a week. It's the single most important habit, and skipping it sends lint straight toward the condenser and heating element, which is a genuine fire risk.
  2. 2Wash the condenser or base filter monthly under running water, and let it dry completely before refitting. A damp filter clogs noticeably faster than a dry one.
